Wisconsin incentives not enough to land Husco plant
The Business Journal of Milwaukee - by Rich Rovito
The state of Wisconsin offered Husco International Inc. $850,000 in financial incentives to put a factory in southwest Wisconsin -- far less than the $4.5 million the Waukesha manufacturer will get for opening the plant in Iowa.
The package from the state of Wisconsin would have included a $600,000 forgivable loan and a $250,000 training grant, according to information obtained by The Business Journal through an open records request.
The incentives from Iowa, however, include a 10-year tax abatement, sales tax refunds on construction materials, job tax credits at $1,400 per worker and a technical school training grant that over three years could amount to as much as $800,000, according to e-mails between Wisconsin Department of Commerce staffers. The e-mails were part of the open records information provided to The Business Journal.
Husco, a manufacturer of hydraulic and electrohydraulic controls for the off-highway and automotive markets, has opted to build a 60,000-square-foot plant in Maquoketa, Iowa.
